One of the biggest metro Atlanta living topics right now is the Atlanta Traffic Referendum. The referendum will approve a regional one percent sales tax that will provide $8.5 billion for transportation improvements. These improvements will include over 150 projects that will positively impact Atlanta’s current transportation and traffic issues. Additionally, the projects will provide over 200,000 jobs and $19 billion in new income for Atlanta’s metro area.An Atlanta Regional Commission study showed that the current Atlanta traffic congestion costs commuters $924 per year. The sales tax for this referendum will only cost commuters $112 per year.
Voting will take place across the entire 10-county Atlanta region. This area includes The City of Atlanta as well as the counties of Clayton, Cherokee, DeKalb, Cobb, Rockdale, Douglas, Fulton, Fayette, Henry, and Gwinnett.
The official vote will take place on July 31. However, you don’t have to wait until July 31 to vote. Early voting started on July 9 and continues through the day before the election. Visit Transform Metro Atlanta for early voting information for different counties.
