Home Prices Up from Last Month, Down from Last Year

Atlanta home prices down

Atlanta sees month over month home price gains, but year over year losses.

Home prices continue to see a slight trend upwards in Atlanta. Prices are still down compared to last year’s levels, but they have ticked upwards month over month recently, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Atlanta home prices nudged up 1.5 percent in June from May’s prices, which followed a 1 percent increase from April. The slow but steady rise is encouraging for home sellers in the area, but it is also worthwhile to note that June prices were also 4.9 percent lower than home prices in June 2010.

The National Home Price Index jumped up 3.6 percent in the second quarter. Unfortunately, we are still half a percent down for the year, thanks to a 4.1 percent drop in the first quarter. The index also experienced a 5.9 percent drop compared to second quarter 2010.
